Japan Journey 2 - 21/06/2009 05:09:06

Sooooo 3 months have officially passed since I arrived in Japan, I can't believe the time is going so fast! Everything has been amazing so far, and now that stuff has settled down with work and what not I can finally update you all. ^^

Ok, so I visited the Gataket in May, a wonderful comic market similar to the famous Comiket in Tokyo (which I'm going to in August!!!!). The Gataket boasts maybe several hundred artists and circles and loads of Cosplayers turned out in force as well. They were all so friendly and nice, and were amazed to see a foreigner wandering about taking pictures...some even came up to shake my hand. Too cute!!

As it was my birthday last week I got to go out for a lovely meal and dress up in a gorgeous silk kimono and yukata too!! I was sooo happy!! It was amazing, but the kimono are very tight and restrictive...like a corset. You can't breathe out in them fully...o_O

In Shibata there is a beautiful Iris Festival around this time, soooo many different types of flowers bloom here and they are all soooo gorgeous. I had such fun strolling through the fields of flowers taking pictures, even though the temperature is now 31 degrees and very humid (argh, it's hot and sweaty!!)
Really really beautiful flowers, if you ever get the chance to see this kind of thing I would recommend going...

The same day I also got the chance to see a Japanese wedding! The bride had unfortunately changed out of her wedding kimono but she was wearing a lovelt western style gown instead and some of her guests had on the most gorgeous kimonos as well.
The gardens where they had the wedding were beautiful too.

Also I went to a Cultural Museum to see how old Japanese style houses looked. It was really interesting and the difference between the rich and the poor was quite astonishing. The gardens in this place were designed by people who designed the gardens in Kyoto, so they were very beautiful and sooo incredibly peaceful...it was lovely just to sit there and listen to the sound of the water and the birds...

Well that's about it for now...the pictures can be found on my DeviantArt page, so check that out and I'll keep snapping away for more updates in the future.

Take care!

Japan Journey 1 - 12/04/2009 06:44:37

WOW!

My first update in what I hope will be many diaries about my little adventures in Japan.

I officially arrived in Japan on the 19th March and began training for my new job the next day at 6am…terrible jet lag and supreme tiredness ensued. XS

I moved to Shibata in Northern Japan about 3 weeks ago now and I have to say, I am very happy with this beautiful place in the world. Shibata is a countryside city so it has the best of both worlds, being right beside the amazing mountains and yet still providing all the amenities that you can think of. ^^

It’s Hanami season now, which means all the sakura trees are in bloom, they are extraordinarily beautiful. I adored watching them at the Hanami part I went to, my first Hanami party ever! The weather is gorgeous at the moment, around 20 degrees and sunny everyday with the mountains providing a cooling breeze as well. Lovely!

I have visited Temples and an Onsen since arriving and have eaten amazing Japanese food, I tell you, I am in my element with the food here…it’s sublime! I love curry rice (my absolute fave so far) and yaki soba as well as the beautifully made cakes (urk! too many cakes!)…*sigh*

Will be starting my new job tomorrow, so I’m a little nervous about it. I just hope I have prepared myself enough to do a good job, but only time will tell for that. I will just have to do my best and enjoy it as much as I can. Stay positive is my attitude!

Artwise - I haven’t worked on anything since leaving, as you can imagine moving across the other side of the world kinda makes doodling abit difficult at times. However now that I am settled I should hopefully soon have some new artwork for you all to view, so watch this space for that. I have started jotting down ideas for a new manga series I may well attempt in the future, so that could be an interesting little project for me to work on as well. ^^

Anyways, check out the pics I have uploaded, I swear I have tons more but I can’t bog down the site with all of them so..yeah, enjoy!

Will update again when things settle with work abit more, till then take care.

*much love as always*

Carly

New Job in Japan & Other News - 08/03/2009 11:23:49

Ok first things first...

I have returned from the Japanese Arts Festival in Richmond!
It was amazing, I had such a lovely time...the atmosphere was just brilliant, the food was delicious (Japanese of course ^^) and I met some amzing artists, including Sonia Leong. That was great as I've always wanted to meet her, plus I sold all my prints! XDDD
Sooo feeling rather pleased about that as a whole...
Below are some pictures of me and some new friends at the JPOP Party that happened afterwards.
(I'm the one in the white scarf!)

Secondly, I am going to live in Japan for a while! XDD
I have a short job contract out there, so in less than 10 days I'll be flying off to Tokyo and then moving to Shibata in Northern Japan!
Isn't that amazing!!! XDD
Of course I'll keep drawing and developing my art for when I get back and I'm going to try and attend as many Conventions as possible, as well as stuffing myself with gorgeous Japanese food!!!
So if it seems that I'm not updating as often then it's coz I'm very busy with my new job and I haven't had the time to check my emails etc, but don't worry...I'll keep updating my website with pictures etc sooo look forward to some nice pictures of Japan. ^^

I am still taking commissions and orders for prints, so if anyone has any problems or is interested in a commission then please contact me via my email address.

Sooo YEY! Very exciting atm, if abit scary..I am officially moving my life across the World! XDD

So that's it for now, wish me luck everyone.

Much love to you all as always!

Carly

Japanese Arts Festival - 09/02/2009 18:41:42

I'm officially going to be attending the Japanese Arts Festival in Richmond on 28th Feb - 1st March.

I'll be giving Manga Workshops during the weekend (with lots of other lovely artists) as well as selling some of my prints and gift packs at my lil artist table. ^^

It'll be a wonderful weekend of art appreciation, music and fun, so please come along and say 'hi!' I'd love to see you all!

Artwise - I'm busy designing some artwork for an Artbook, due out in October at the London MCM Expo and re-designing my new business cards and portfolio updating as well...so quite busy atm. I'll get some work up as soon as i'm finished with it all. ^^

Much love as always. ^^

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Everyone!! XD

Wow, this year has gone so incredibly fast, it's amazing! I can't believe i finally got my site sorted and everything in time for Xmas. lol, now i have to sort out all my prints/works etc and try get some extra exposure and all that jazz. ^^

And, speaking of exposure this Xmas i'm helping out a friend of a friend from MangaRevolution who desperately needs some support. I've looked at her work and it's very sweet, she also makes clothing, so if anyone is feeling generous and would like to help out a fellow artist then please have a gander at Kiko's site.
